Meeting Ananias

and Other Eye-Opening Stories of Faith

Rev. Dr. James Tino

2014 • Paperback • 166 pages

Are you finding it harder and harder to keep your faith energized? Why is it that the Christian life, once so exciting and full of promise, often becomes routine and ordinary? As we follow Jesus, it is easy to get overwhelmed with the details and concerns of life, and lose sight of what God is doing in us and through us. We can become focused on the wrong things, which quickly drains the life out of our faith. We need to have our vision adjusted by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit so we can see the hand of God at work in our lives each and every day. In Meeting Ananias, our eyes are opened to see what we sometimes miss: the ordinary and extraordinary ways that God makes Himself known to us as we follow Him.

Here's what people are saying...

Meeting Ananias was an excellent, thought-provoking, discussion-creating collection of stories and life lessons from one man’s own life experience and how he related to the Bible. It causes us to look at our own lives for our own collection of stories and life lessons that helps us to relate personally to God’s Word. It’s a reminder that we all are called to God’s saving mission.
Eric Funke, Global Lutheran Outreach, Missionary in Mwadui, Tanzania

Meeting Ananias is a quick read and wonderful devotional material. I read a story a day in order for me to be able to soak in each story. I think every person will have a different favorite. However, my personal favorites were "Hidden Treasure" and "My Prodigal Son." As a cross-cultural missionary myself, I could really relate to the challenges of learning a new language and the sense of brokenness in "The Hidden Treasure." The story was a beautiful reminder that not only does God use our brokenness, but it is in our brokenness that God's greatest works are accomplished. "My Prodigal Son" touched me because I have also had many young people in my life that I wished I knew why they were behaving the way they were. This tale was a great reminder that the story is not over. God is still very much at work in the world.
Deaconess Linda Funke, Global Lutheran Outreach, Missionary in Mwadui, Tanzania

Pastor Jim Tino is by profession and Calling a missionary. But he’s also a story teller, a highly intuitive one. And in Meeting Ananias, he combines these skills to show how the value of faith can change the lives, and give substance, to individuals, families, people at the margins, in big cities like Caracas, or remote dusty llanos (plains). He tells what mission work is at the most elemental level--no high flown theology, just stories; good ones.
Milan Korcok, Author, Medical Writer, Church Councillor, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Meeting Ananias is a great book. I like the fact that the author makes it personal to himself and to the people that interacted with him in the mission field.
Rev. Dr. Eugene W. Bunkowske, Professor of Christian Outreach, Concordia University, St. Paul, MN

Meeting Ananias is a delightful book which vividly pictures the integration of missiological principles and practices with real life experiences on the Venezuelan mission field. Readers will enjoy and learn from Jim’s fresh insights into God’s mission in action.
Rev. Peter A. Meier, Executive Director, Center for United States Missions

I loved this book! I used it on my Liberia mission trip last week with my students. Jim’s insightful, missional, heartwarming, Christ-centered stories help you understand the Christian life in a wonderful way!
